Is there something that people have said about you that stands out in your mind? Perhaps something you can draw upon when you're having "one of those days"? Something that people have noticed...and acknowledged... that makes you who you are?
For as long as I can remember people have told me I have a way of taking a less than favorable situation and making it better. This not only touches my heart, but on those days when it might be easier to say to heck with the bright side it helps me remember how important it is to keep perspective.
Isn't it nice when people take the time to let you know little things like that? That got me thinking about how just a smile or a kind word or two can really impact another person and how important it is to me to not only live my life in this way, but to try and instill it in the students I work with as well.
Let's try a little experiment...tomorrow try to tell at least one person something that you admire about them. Pick someone who won't expect it. That person in the office who grates on your nerves? Find something about them that you admire and let them know it. The family member who keeps doing that thing that irritates you? Tell them something kind. And be genuine...there is nothing worse than a phony compliment! You might be surprised at the effect it has not only on your recipient, but on you as well.
And keep me posted, I would love to hear how this goes if you give it a try.

Being kind is a very underrated gift (talent? skill?) these days. Let's hear it for kindness! Lovely post and yes, I'll be trying it out.
Love this idea & the photo. Now I need to decide who I will choose!
Great minds...
I try to do this everyday - It's amazing the effect it has on people!
Just a little comment about how a particular colour really suits someone or how their hair looks...
And for me it's an exercise in noticing the everyday beautiful! Win/Win!
Such a great idea :-) I do try to do this - it's lovely to see someone's face lifted by a surprised smile when you compliment them!
Lovely idea!
This is such a lovely idea! I just took a class on women's empowerment, and one of the things that we learned is the importance of building other women up in the process of gaining equality and influence for females. Sometimes we tend to be judgmental and competitive of/with each other, and remembering that we are all in this life and struggle together is important.
It is always good to focus on the positive things that we notice about a person, rather than the negative, and informing them of the things we appreciate!
